There’s plenty of advice online for how candidates should put together a well-written Curriculum Vitae but there seems to be less useful information for employers to know what to look out for in a good résumé. When reviewing incoming CVs, here are some key factors to look out for in order to identify the strongest candidates for your vacancy:

The résumé should highlight relevant experience that aligns with the job requirements. Look at past relevant positions, internships, or projects that demonstrate the applicant’s ability to excel in the desired role. Watch out for unexplained gaps and try to get a feeling for whether the CV tells a consistent story of progress that matches your ideal candidate hire profile.
#2. Skills and qualifications
A good CV emphasizes the candidate’s relevant skills and qualifications. It should clearly demonstrate the individual’s expertise and capabilities in areas crucial for the position. In the real world there can sometimes be small gaps between the skills or experience on offer versus your ideal candidate; you need to decide if these can be bridged through external or on-the-job training and support.

Notwithstanding all the above, bear in mind that résumés are just one piece of the hiring process, and employers should also consider other factors like interview performance and feedback from references. However, at the end of the day, a well-crafted résumé can provide valuable insight into a candidate’s potential fit for a role with your organisation.
